BEAT - Performing the Music of 80s King Crimson - Europe 2026
Former King Crimson members Adrian Belew and Tony Levin join forces with guitar virtuoso Steve Vai and Tool drummer Danny Carey to create BEAT, a powerful creative reinterpretation of three iconic 1980s King Crimson albums – Discipline, Beat, and Three Of A Perfect Pair. The project arrives at Alexela Kontserdimaja on July 19, 2026 for a rare and unmissable concert experience.
BEAT revisits the groundbreaking second era of King Crimson, when the band reshaped progressive music with sharp rhythms, interlocking guitars, and daring experimentation. The 1981–1984 lineup introduced a new sonic language: angular minimalism colliding with explosive precision, conceptual ambition fused with fearless musicianship. Now, that era is reimagined live by the very architects who defined it.
Adrian Belew’s unmistakable guitar textures and elastic vocals were central to the original recordings, while Tony Levin’s innovative bass work and mastery of the Chapman Stick helped build the rhythmic DNA of the trilogy. Joining them is Steve Vai, himself a former Frank Zappa collaborator and one of the most technically celebrated guitarists in modern rock, stepping into the role once held by Robert Fripp. On drums, Danny Carey of Tool brings his explosive power and intricate polyrhythms, channeling the spirit of Bill Bruford while adding his own unmistakable intensity.
As one recent review described the project: “the instant the BEAT quartet took the stage with ‘Neurotica,’ I knew we were digging deep into the fibers of my greatest music loves.” The production has been praised for capturing the adventurous spirit of the 1980s King Crimson era while delivering it with renewed urgency and virtuosity.
The original second-era King Crimson albums were celebrated for their imaginative instrumentation and bold structural ideas. Belew, shaped by his time with Frank Zappa, David Bowie, and Talking Heads, brought a distinct sonic vocabulary to the band. Levin added influences from his work with Peter Gabriel and jazz greats, alongside a passion for newly invented instruments. Together, they helped craft a body of work that remains foundational to progressive rock and modern experimental music.
With BEAT, that legacy is honored and reinterpreted by a lineup of musicians who are not only technically formidable but deeply connected to the material. The result is not a nostalgic recreation, but a living, breathing performance that highlights the timelessness and daring of these compositions.
Prepare for a night of progressive innovation, precision musicianship, and legendary repertoire when BEAT takes the stage at Alexela Kontserdimaja on July 19, 2026. Tickets for Live Nation Concert Club members will be available from Wednesday, February 25 at 11:00. General ticket sales begin on Friday, February 27 at 11:00 via Piletilevi online and official sales points.
