Monta Tupcijenko Jazz Quintet

Show descriptionHide description

On August 29, MASA Kultūrbārs will host the Monta Tupčijenko Quintet — an international contemporary jazz ensemble uniting musicians from Latvia, Germany, and Austria. Their sound moves seamlessly between lyrical ballads, energetic jazz-rock rhythms, and finely crafted chamber jazz textures. The program will feature Monta’s original compositions, jazz standards, and works from Fred Hersch’s repertoire.

Monta Tupčijenko — Latvian vocalist, composer, and arranger based in Hamburg, her music is characterized by expressive melodies and a multi-layered harmonic language. In 2024, she received the Gerhard Trede Composition Prize.

Edgars Cīrulis — Latvian pianist and composer blending jazz, minimalism, and folk influences. His works have been performed by the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and the State Choir Latvija.

Vadims Dmitrijevs — Latvian trombonist with a master’s degree from Hamburg, regular guest with the Latvian Radio Big Band, and leader of the 2024 album Integration.

Julian Eingang — Austrian double bassist active in modern jazz and free improvisation, currently based in Hamburg. Released Into a New Light in 2025.

Jonas Grätzer — German drummer with studies in Essen and London, combining rhythmic precision with textural depth.
