From August 27 to 29, Riga will host the ISU Junior Grand Prix Riga Cup, an international figure skating competition bringing together some of the strongest junior skaters from around the world in all four disciplines – Women, Men, Ice Dance and Pairs.

Latvia will also be represented by three Junior Women and three Junior Men.

The competition will take place over three days.

The ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating is an international competition series featuring talented young figure skaters from around the world.

The series is organized by the International Skating Union (ISU) in cooperation with the respective national skating federations and represents one of the most important stages in the development of young athletes as they progress towards competing at the senior level.

The Junior Grand Prix provides young skaters with valuable international competition experience and gives spectators the opportunity to see some of the future stars of world figure skating.

MASHINA VREMENI — WORLD TOUR 2026

Some bands become part of music history. Others become part of the lives of entire generations. Mashina Vremeni is one of them.

EsDeeKid to Perform in Riga for the First Time

Britain's most captivating rapper, EsDeeKid, has announced his Council House Rat Tour and will perform in Latvia for the very first time. Tickets for his 12 November concert at Palladium Riga will go on sale on 31 July at 10:00 AM via the Biļešu Serviss ticketing network.

In a remarkably short time, EsDeeKid has become one of the most talked-about new names on the UK hip-hop scene. Guided by a singular creative vision, he has built a world entirely of his own through music, visuals and storytelling, transforming a fiercely loyal fanbase into a global movement.

With over 2 billion streams across his catalogue, EsDeeKid has emerged as one of the defining new artists of his generation.

Released in June 2025, his debut project “Rebel” has become one of the defining rap releases of the decade so far. After peaking at No.23 on the Billboard 200 and No.8 on the UK Official Albums Chart, the project became the most-streamed rap album in the world on a daily basis by the end of last year and is now the longest-charting UK rap album in Billboard history. Along the way it produced three UK Top 20 records, multiple Billboard Hot 100 entries, a BRIT Award nomination for Best Breakthrough Artist and sell-out tours across three continents, with over 27,000 fans in the waiting room for the Los Angeles dates alone.

British musical aesthetes The Cinematic Orchestra announce a concert in Vilnius

British group The Cinematic Orchestra known for blending contemporary jazz with electronic music are coming to Vilnius. The only show in the Baltics! 

“A brief escape from the studio where we are currently working on a new album,” The Cinematic Orchestra say of their upcoming European shows. The group recently welcomed several new members who will also be coming to Vilnius. On stage will be group founder Jason Swinscoe, keyboardist Al MacSween, drummer Ellis Dupuy and bassist Vini Cajado.

At their concerts, sound and visuals come together to create a deeply cinematic experience. “Tasteful electronica,” writes The Guardian. NME describes The Cinematic Orchestra as elegant, intelligent and deeply emotional, while Pitchfork simply calls them majestic. 

For more than two decades, The Cinematic Orchestra have created a unique sound somewhere between jazz and electronic music. Led by Jason Swinscoe, the group brings together accomplished musicians who draw on jazz traditions and interpret them in their own way.

The Cinematic Orchestra have inspired many celebrated contemporary artists, including Kendrick Lamar, Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Sons of Kemet, BADBADNOTGOOD, Floating Points and Ólafur Arnalds. The group helped lead many of them towards modern jazz and became a major source of inspiration.

The Cinematic Orchestra have performed at prestigious venues around the world, selling out London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Philharmonie de Paris, Rome’s Auditorium Parco della Musica and the Sydney Opera House.

Their compositions unfold slowly, layer by layer, allowing listeners to sink into a particular mood. Sound becomes the storyteller.

The Cinematic Orchestra: Masters of the Soundtracks

Soundtracks play an important role in the group’s work. They have created music for films including Dziga Vertov’s “Man with a Movie Camera” and Disney’s documentary “The Crimson Wing”. The latter features their track “Arrival of the Birds”, which was later used in James Marsh’s Oscar-winning film “The Theory of Everything”.

The Cinematic Orchestra stands out in the world of film music for the way they combine live instruments with electronic sounds. Their music fits the moving image naturally. Instead of simply repeating what is already happening on screen their soundtracks add another layer to the story.

The Cinematic Orchestra are currently working on new music. After a long break, they have announced concerts in just five cities: Hamburg, Istanbul, Düsseldorf, Sofia and Vilnius. Their last Vilnius show in 2019 became one of the most memorable concerts of the season.

Trip-hop pioneer Tricky announces a concert in Vilnius

British trip-hop legend Tricky returns to Vilnius this September.

On 2 September, Tricky will present his new album “Different When It’s Silent” at Kablys. Both Tricky and the venue have deep roots in underground culture, making it a perfect match. Vilnius is one of the latest additions to his extensive European tour.

Tricky’s music is dark, hypnotic and instantly recognisable. He is one of the most important figures in the British underground and played a key role in the birth of trip-hop.

Collaborations have always been central to his career. Tricky has worked with artists including Massive Attack, Björk, Neneh Cherry, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cyndi Lauper, Ed Kowalczyk, Alanis Morissette, Nneka, Elvis Costello, Peter Doherty, PJ Harvey, Grace Jones, Yoko Ono and Martina Topley-Bird. Over the years, he has changed creative direction, cities, sounds, formats and collaborators, yet has always remained unmistakably himself.

Although Tricky’s name is inseparable from the history of trip-hop, he has no interest in recreating “Maxinquaye”. Today, he is focused on his own label False Idols and a trusted circle of collaborators.

Onstage Tricky will be joined by drummer Velroy John Bailey, keyboardist Ross Daniel Barnes, guitarist Marion Kallikorm, vocalists Mitchell Lee Sanders and Marta Złakowska.

Polish vocalist Marta Złakowska is the tour’s special guest. In recent years, she has become one of Tricky’s most important creative partners. Her delicate, intimate voice subtly complements his dark sound. Their 2025 collaborative album, “Out the Way”, was praised by critics as one of Tricky’s strongest recent works. It established their partnership as more than a one-off experiment, revealing a distinct creative direction of its own.

Album “Different When It’s Silent”

“Different When It’s Silent” is Tricky’s fifteenth studio album and his first release under his own name in six years. The reason for the long break is deeply personal and painful: the sudden death of his daughter.

“When my daughter died, I felt a strong need to work even harder. But all the media attention, publicity, marketing and everything else that comes with releasing an album… After Mina Mazy’s death, I simply didn’t have the strength for it. I was never a mainstream star, but what happened made me retreat even further into the background,” says Tricky. The album is filled with grief, yet also carries a powerful sense of life. “I’m singing to my daughter,” Tricky says of its closing track, “Out Of Place”.

There is a heartbreaking parallel between this album and his debut. “Maxinquaye” was a tribute to his mother, who took her own life, while “Different When It’s Silent” is dedicated to his late daughter. Between these two records lie three decades of music, personal change and intense life experiences.

“I’m ready to live again. For a while, I was emotionally paralysed. Now I’m moving forward. I’m really looking forward to this extensive tour. I want to be back onstage. I’m grateful that I can make music,” says Tricky, who seems to have found a way through unbearable pain with the help of music.

Tricky remains one of the most influential voices in British music and nothing can take that away from him.
