Welcome to Tartu and the Estonian National Museum!

The 6000 m2 exhibition area of the Estonian National Museum is by far the largest in Estonia. The exhibitions feature approximately 700 screens and interactive solutions.

The fairy tale exhibition “Once Upon a Time” (open until spring 2021) takes visitors on a journey to the enchanted forest, the underworld, the market of magical objects and a royal palace, where children can fight a three-headed dragon and put themselves to the test in a laser corridor. The well-known fairy tales featured in the exhibition also offer adults endless joy through recognition.

The permanent exhibition on Estonian cultural history, “Encounters”, features a timeline from the end of the ice age to the modern day and 11 thematic exhibitions. The second permanent exhibition “Echo of the Urals” introduces Finno-Ugric peoples.

You can book a guided tour (incl. in Russian, Latvian, Lithuanian and English), dine at our restaurant and purchase gifts for family back home from the museum shop, which offers genuine Estonian handicrafts and food.
